Jack Black joins Jason Momoa in ‘Minecraft’ movie adaptation

The scoop: Black will reportedly play Steve, the main character of the franchise, according to Deadline. The movie, however, will be led by Momoa, who was first cast back in April 2022. It remains unknown who the “Aquaman” star will portray.

Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks and Sebastian Eugene Hansen will also star in the Jared Hess movie, which is scheduled for release on April 4, 2025.

What Black is saying: The “Kung Fu Panda” star seemingly teased “Minecraft” fans in an Instagram post Wednesday with a picture of himself reading the book “Minecraft Basics for Dummies.” He wrote in the description, “An actor prepares.”

Momoa has yet to react to the “Minecraft” movie news. However, the game’s official Instagram page congratulated him on the release of “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” on Dec. 23, 2023, in a joint post showing a picture of Steve wearing an Aquaman skin.

An in-demand voice: “Minecraft” will be Black’s third video game-to-movie adaptation after the $1.36 billion hit “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” where he voiced villain Bowser, and Lionsgate’s live-action “Borderlands,” which will hit theaters on Aug. 9. Black will voice the sarcastic robot Claptrap in the latter.
