Nintendo’s newest release, “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,” has made history by becoming the fastest-selling Zelda game of all time.
The hit video game, which was released on May 12, is the sequel to Nintendo’s “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,” which debuted on March 3, 2017.
Just three days after its release date, “Tears of the Kingdom” sold over 10 million copies worldwide, Nintendo recently announced.
“We have been blown away by the support of fans for this record-breaking launch of ‘The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,’” said Takuro Horie, Nintendo Australia’s managing director.
The game, which is exclusively available for the Nintendo Switch, follows the beloved protagonist Link of the “The Legend of Zelda” series.
Players choose their “own path through the sprawling landscapes of Hyrule and the mysterious islands floating in the vast skies above,” the game’s official website states. “Can you harness the power of Link’s new abilities to fight back against the malevolent forces that threaten the kingdom?”
To celebrate the game’s release, Nintendo notably launched a special edition “Tears of the Kingdom” Nintendo Switch OLED in April.
