Nintendo released a gameplay video of “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” on Tuesday.
The Japanese video game company’s 10-minute video features a few new elements of the sequel to 2017’s “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.”
In the gameplay showcase, Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma notably talks about the ability to merge objects together to build vehicles and create sturdier weapons. He also mentions floating land masses called “Sky Islands” and the “Ascend” ability that allows players to pass through ceilings, among other new features.
“The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,” whose first official trailer was shared on Sept. 13, 2022, will be released on May 13.
The new Switch’s system, dock and Joy-Cons will have gold, green, gray and white detailing.
Nintendo fans can expect to shell out $360 for the special edition Switch OLED. Nintendo will also be releasing a matching controller and carrying case, priced at $75 and $25 respectively, on May 12.
“The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” became a massive hit after it was released on March 3, 2017.
The game, which is exclusively available for the Nintendo Switch, follows the beloved protagonist Link of the “The Legend of Zelda” series.
“After a 100-year slumber, Link wakes up alone in a world he no longer remembers. Now the legendary hero must explore a vast and dangerous land and regain his memories before Hyrule is lost forever. Armed only with what he can scavenge, Link sets out to find answers and the resources needed to survive,” the game’s official website states.
Since its release, “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” has won several awards, including several Golden Joystick Awards and SXSW Gaming Awards, a NAVGTR Award and a BAFTA Games Award. In 2017, it was named Game of the Year at the Game Awards.
