A24 romance drama “Past Lives” received three nominations at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs), including a historic nod for German-South Korean actor Yoo Teo.
Unveiling the nominees: Teo Yoo, whose real name is Kim Chi Hun, 42, was nominated Thursday for best leading actor. Others vying for the coveted accolade include Bradley Cooper (“Maestro”), Colman Domingo (“Rustin”), Paul Giamatti (“The Holdovers”), Barry Keoghan (“Saltburn”) and Cillian Murphy (“Oppenheimer”).
Historic nomination: Yoo, who was born in Cologne, Germany, is the first Korean male actor nominated for an acting award at the BAFTAs. He played Hae Sung in the movie.
The first Korean female actor to receive a BAFTA nomination for an acting category — best supporting actress — was Youn Yuh-jung of A24’s “Minari” in 2021. She went on to win the award and others of the same category at the SAG Awards and the Oscars in the same year.
Other nominations: Aside from best leading actor, “Past Lives” has been nominated for best original screenplay alongside “Anatomy of a Fall,” “Barbie,” “The Holdovers” and “Maestro.”
The film, directed by Celine Song and co-starring Greta Lee, also received a nod for best film not in the English language. Others nominated in the category include “20 Days in Mariupol,” “Anatomy of a Fall,” “Society of the Snow” and “The Zone of Interest.”
