South Korean screenwriter Han Jin-won, who won an Oscar for best original screenplay alongside Bong Joon-ho in 2019, will be making his directorial debut.
Han, 37, rose in global popularity due to the success of “Parasite,” which he penned with Bong after they finished working on the post-apocalyptic sci-fi film “Snowpiercer” in 2013. In addition to “Parasite,” Han has worked on several hit projects, including Netflix’s “Okja” and Season 2 of “Sense8.”
According to Sports Chosun, Han will direct the upcoming K-drama “Running Mate” for South Korean streaming platform TVING.
The series will reportedly follow student Se-hoon, who becomes the center of attention of a student council election after he decides to run in order to reinvent himself.
“Through an ordinary boy’s rollercoaster-like story that spans nearly one month, we wanted to encourage viewers to recall their past, reflect on the present, and have courage to drive forward into the future,” a member of the series’ production team said, according to Soompi. “We hope that this gives meaningful enjoyment to those who encounter this series.”
The cast of “Running Mate” reportedly includes Yoon Hyun-soo, Lee Jung-sic, Ok Jin-uk and NMIXX‘s Jiwon.
