Acclaimed South Korean Director of ‘Okja’ Releases Stunning Trailer for New Film ‘Parasite’
By Ryan General
After a successful run at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, receiving widespread critical acclaim and winning South Korea’s first-ever Palme d’Or award, “Parasite” is now ready for its global theatrical release.
Set for a North American release of October 11, the highly acclaimed black comedy-thriller from filmmaker Bong Joon-ho (“Snowpiercer”, ”Okja”) just released its chilling first trailer.
“Parasite” tells the story of two families of different social standings. The Parks are an affluent family with everything money can buy, while the Kims are a family living in poverty, relying on street smarts to survive. The film tackles the dynamics between the two families after the Kim children are hired as tutors and art therapists to the Park household.
In the film, South Korean actress Cho Yeo-Jeong (“The Servant”, “The Concubine”) leads an ensemble cast that includes Song Kang-Ho (“The Host”, “Snowpiercer”), Lee Sun-Kyun (“Helpless”, “A Hard Day”), Choi Woo-Shik (“Train to Busan”), and Park So-Dam (“The Throne”, “The Priests”).
Since its world premiere at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival on May 21, “Parasite” has received endless praise from critics and audiences for its humor and social relevance. It currently has a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
“An urgent, brilliantly layered look at timely social themes, Parasite finds writer-director Bong Joon-ho in near-total command of his craft,” reads the site’s critical consensus.
