Nico Santos and longtime partner Zeke Smith have officially tied the knot in a “Big Gay” wedding that coincided with Pride Weekend in Palm Springs, California.
Tying the knot: Santos, 44, and Smith, 35, held their wedding ceremony at the Parker Hotel in Palm Springs on Saturday. The event coincided with the 2023 Pride Weekend celebration in the city, which Santos and Smith initially did not realize until they were informed by a friend.
“It’s a big gay wedding,” Santos told People. “A lot of our guests are queer as well, so we thought let’s just stick to the date and have it during Pride weekend. So it’ll be extra gay.”
Details to know: The week-long celebration consisted of a “Cheeky Tiki Tiki Party” held at the Gene Autry suite at The Parker during the kick-off on Friday and a heartwarming ceremony officiated by Santos’ “Superstore” co-star Mark McKinney at around 4 p.m. on Saturday.
The “Crazy Rich Asians” star donned a “sassified” traditional Filipino barong, while the two-time “Survivor” contestant wore a black tux partnered with black lizard cowboy boots.
The newlywed couple’s nuptials included readings from Shakespeare and iconic lines from romantic comedies, as well as a veil and cord ceremony and nods to each of the couple’s cultures.
Who are in attendance: Other “Superstore” cast members also attended the ceremony, including Lauren Ash, 40, who described the event as the “most beautiful wedding I’ve ever attended” in an Instagram post.
American Ferrera, 39, who plays as Amy in the hit NBC sitcom, commented under Ash’s Instagram post, writing in part, “Such a beautiful pic!!! Devastated to miss it. Hope it was the best day ever.”
The background: Santos and Smith met at the 2018 GLAAD Media Awards. The couple got engaged after Smith popped the question while promoting the 33rd GLAAD Media Awards on stage at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on April 2, 2022.
In an interview with “Entertainment Tonight Canada” in June, Santos shared that his only focus at that time was the wedding preparation with Smith.
“Getting married. That’s where my mind is right now,” he said. “We are deep into the wedding planning process, so that’s taking up a lot of space in my mind, rightfully so.”
What’s next for them: After the wedding, the couple reportedly went to Joshua Tree National Park in California for their “mini-moon,” which would then be followed by a trip to Italy in 2024 for their official honeymoon.
