Netflix has released a teaser trailer for its upcoming live-action adaptation of “One Piece.”
About the teaser: On Sunday, the streaming giant took to social media platforms such as Instagram and YouTube to share the teaser.
“The COPE is over it’s finally here! Welcome to the world of the ‘One Piece’ live action. We can’t wait for you to meet our Straw Hat crew. Eiichiro Oda’s epic masterpiece is about to come to life like never before!” Netflix wrote in its Instagram post.
The teaser features several members of the Straw Hat crew, including Monkey D. Luffy, Nami, Roronoa Zoro, Sanji and Usopp.
Key people: Netflix’s “One Piece,” which is an adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s manga series of the same name, was developed by Matt Owens and Steven Maeda and directed by Marc Jobst. Owens, Maeda, Oda, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements serve as executive producers, while Nicole Hirsch Whitaker serves as its cinematographer.
The highly anticipated eight-episode series’ cast includes Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Taz Skyler as Sanji, Jacob Gibson as Usopp and Peter Gadiot as Shanks, among many others.
About “One Piece”: Oda’s popular manga series, which currently has over 105 volumes, was created in 1997.
The manga follows aspiring pirate captain Monkey D. Luffy and his crew as they search for a mythical treasure known as “One Piece.”
Other onscreen adaptations: In addition to Netflix’s upcoming live-action series, which premieres on Aug. 31, “One Piece” has also been adapted into an anime series, as well as over a dozen feature films.
Last year saw the premiere of the animated musical fantasy action-adventure “One Piece Film: Red.”
