Trailer: Netflix’s ‘Pokémon Concierge’ promises cozy retreat for fans
By Ryan General
Netflix is set to unwrap a delightful holiday treat for Pokémon fans with the launch of a charming stop-motion animated series on Dec. 28.
A Pokémon paradise: “Pokémon Concierge,” the first collaborative effort between Netflix and The Pokémon Company, introduces viewers to a tranquil resort under the watchful care of a dedicated team of Pokémon concierges. The slice-of-life series, composed of four 14-20-minute episodes, explores the journey of the titular character as she tends to the needs of her unique clientele.
Stop-motion magic: The full trailer, released on Tuesday, introduces viewers to Haru (voiced by Karen Fukuhara in English and Rena Nounen in Japanese), the heartwarming concierge tasked with ensuring the well-being of iconic Pokémon guests like Pikachu, Eevee, Dragonite, Psyduck and Magikarp, among others.
The trailer showcases the meticulous stop-motion animation that brings the Pokémon world to life. A departure from the traditional high-energy, battle-centric narratives of previous Pokémon adaptations, “Pokémon Concierge” offers a refreshing take with its cozy, plush-toy aesthetic and a more laid-back approach.
Creative ensemble: Directed by Ogawa Iku and penned by Doki Harumi (“Anniversary,” “Re/Member”), “Pokémon Concierge” boasts character design by Uesugi Tadahiro (“Coraline,” “Big Hero 6”). The series features the main theme song, “Have a Good Time Here,” performed by the legendary singer Mariya Takeuchi (“Plastic Love”). The show features an impressive Japanese voice cast including Nounen, Ai Fairouz, Okuno Eita and Takemura Yoshiko, while the English version showcases talents like Fukuhara, Imani Hakim, Josh Keaton and Lori Alan.
