Netflix has officially announced the renewal of its Korean reality series “Physical 100” for a second season.
About the show:Physical 100” features 100 of Korea’s top athletes, bodybuilders, soldiers and others from physically demanding professions who compete in grueling fitness challenges for the chance to win a cash prize of 300 million won (approximately $245,000).
Season 1 of “Physical 100” premiered on Jan. 24 and became Netflix’s most-watched non-English show for two consecutive weeks.
The nine-episode season saw the eventual triumph of Woo Jin-yong, a 37-year-old CrossFit athlete and former professional snowboarder. Following his win, netizens accused Woo and the show of having rigged the series finale. Meanwhile, other contestants were accused of bullying and domestic violence.
What to expect: Addressing the series’ second season, creator and director Jang Ho-gi said in a statement: “We decided to retain the essence of the show — finding the perfect physique — while introducing fresh elements. This is our way of expressing our gratitude to the fans of the show. … And I’m also collaborating with many experts to make sure we have even more electrifying and well-designed quests that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats.”
Netflix revealed that the set for Season 2 will be much bigger than that of Season 1, which was the size of two soccer fields.
Premiere date: Netflix has yet to announce an official release date for “Physical 100” Season 2.
