In diplomatic meeting of VPs, Kamala Harris tells Sara Duterte: ‘I love lumpia’
During Vice President Kamala Harris’s visit to the Philippines, she talked with Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte about her love for the traditional Filipino dish lumpia.
In a video captured by GMA News, the vice presidents’ can be seen sitting across each other while having a casual conversation about Filipino food during their bilateral meeting at the Aguado House near Malacañang on Nov. 21.
Duterte tells Harris to try out Filipino dishes, including lechon, a roasted suckling pig that is usually prepared for special occasions and gatherings.
“I love lumpia, too,” Harris says. “I have many people working in my office who are Filipino American, so whenever we have holiday parties, there is a big tray of [lumpia].”
The two women then go on to discuss both fresh and fried lumpia.
In the meeting, Harris also discussed ways to improve literacy and access to high-quality education for children in the Philippines.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo, Philippine Ambassador to the U.S. Jose Manuel Romualdez and U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson were also present at the Aguado House, according to GMA News.
Harris also met with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. at the Malacañang Palace, wherein they discussed ways to strengthen the U.S. and the Philippines’ economic and security relationship.
