Netflix has released the official trailer for South Korean filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho’s latest project, “Jung_E,” showing a more in-depth look at the highly anticipated sci-fi film.
On Wednesday, the streaming giant shared a two-minute clip about Jung_E, who is described as an “A.I. [artificial intelligence] combat warrior“ and “humanity’s hope and ultimate weapon.”
According to Netflix, “Jung_E” will take place “in a post-apocalyptic near-future” and follow the story of an AI researcher who tries to stop a civil war by cloning the brain of her military soldier mother.
Yeon, who wrote and directed “Jung_E,” has previously worked on several TV series and movies such as acclaimed action horror film “Train to Busan,” Netflix’s “Hellbound” and “Psychokinesis,” South Korea’s first mainstream superhero film.
“Jung_E,” which is set to premiere on Jan. 20, will star Kim Hyun-joo, Kang Soo-yeon and Ryoo Kyung-soo, among others. Kang, who plays the character Seohyun, died due to a stroke in May 2022. Yeon’s film will notably feature her last onscreen performance.
