A new Korean horror series “Parasyte: The Grey” is underway at Netflix with Yeon Sang-ho, the writer and director behind the Korean horror hits “Hellbound,” “Train To Busan” and “Peninsula,” attached to helm.
The live-action series, produced by Climax Studio and Wow Point, is adapted from Hitoshi Iwaaki’s mega-popular sci-fi manga but is said to have a Korean spin on the original Japanese series. The latest project will see Yeon’s return to Netflix, having previously created the 2021 series “HellBound.” Ryu Yong-jae, a screenwriter for Netflix’s “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area” will also be working with Yeon on the script.
In the story, humanity faces off against evil, unidentified parasitic life-forms that begin to feed off human hosts in order to gain power. Jeon So-nee (“Scripting Your Destiny”) will play the role of a woman who manages to coexist with the parasite, while Koo Kyo-hwan (“Kingdom: Ashin of the North”) plays a man searching for his missing sister in the midst of chaos. Lee Jung-hyun (“Decision To Leave”) takes on the role of the leader of “The Grey,” a task force that was created to fight the parasites.
While no date has been scheduled as of yet, the series will be released on Netflix globally.
