Japan Now Has an All-You-Can-Eat Fried Fondue Restaurant
By Carl Samson
A restaurant in Japan that lets diners batter and fry their food to a perfect crisp is all the rage on social media.
Kushiya Monogatari, which offers an all-you-can-eat buffet experience, is a kushiage chain with more than 100 locations across the country.
Kushiage, also known as kushikatsu (when they’re meat cutlets), is a dish of deep-fried skewers originating in Osaka.
To prepare the dish, cutlets of meat or vegetables are skewered on sticks and coated with batter before being deep-fried as pleased.
A recent video from Tastemade takes viewers to a Kushiya Monogatari in Shinjuku, where diners get a taste of the full kushiage experience.
Skewers at the restaurant may also be coated with panko crumbs — Japanese-style crumbs that are made from bread without crusts.
The video has received more than 667,000 views on Facebook as of this writing, with users getting excited about trying kushiage.
