Filipino aunt’s clever ‘Jollibee prank’ makes nephew enjoy his vegetables

A Filipino aunt recently went viral on social media for her harmless “fake Jollibee prank” on her nephew.
Maricris Soriano Hungriano, a 29-year-old woman from the province of Aurora, cleverly made her 4-year-old nephew John Cedrick eat vegetables by making it look like a meal from the popular fast-food joint.
In the viral social media post on May 2, Hungriano shared photos of her nephew eating “adobong sitaw” (string beans cooked adobo style) with rice, which she placed inside a Jollibee takeaway container.
“The time will come when you’ll realize that there’s no ‘adobong sitaw’ in Jollibee,” Hungriano wrote in Filipino. “He’s so excited to eat that he even clapped his hands.“
Not realizing he was actually eating healthy vegetables, John Cedrick expressed delight while enjoying his meal.
Hungriano told NextShark that she was forced to come up with a creative way to feed her nephew some vegetables because he was feeling unwell at the time.
The post received over 1.4 million views on TikTok and thousands of shares on Facebook, with commenters showering the aunt with praises for the way she made eating vegetables enjoyable and fun for her nephew. Some told Hungriano that they would try the same strategy to get their children to eat vegetables.
According to Hungriano, she’s glad that a lot of parents were inspired by what many have dubbed a clever “life hack.”
It did not take long for strangers to reach out to Hungriano so they could treat John Cedrick to an authentic Jollibee meal. In a recent post, Hungriano shared that she took her nephew to Jollibee with a caption that says in Filipino: “Thank you to all the sponsors, the boy is happy again.”
