BTS and Blackpink are Google’s most searched bands of all time
BTS and Blackpink, two of the world’s most popular K-pop groups, have been recognized as the most searched boy and girl bands of all time on Google.
Google’s anniversary: The news came in a video recap celebrating Google’s 25-year history as a search engine. The multinational tech giant was first launched in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin to market Google Search. Since then, Google has become the most used web-based search engine, capturing nearly 92% of the search market.
“This year, we’re celebrating the most searched figures and moments in 25 years of Google Search,” the company noted. “From some of the world’s most iconic performances, to history-making breakthroughs, see the moments that have changed the world and inspired the next generation to come.”
Formed in 2013, BTS has achieved global success, garnering a massive fan base known as ARMY and setting records in music charts. Although the septet is currently on hiatus to fulfill military service requirements, they renewed their contracts with Big Hit Music in September, with plans for a full group comeback in 2025.
Most searched girl band: As for the most searched girl band, Blackpink takes the lead. Formed in 2016, quartet Blackpink has also made significant strides, including being the first K-group to headline Coachella. They recently renewed their exclusive contracts with YG Entertainment.
Other featured celebrities: Google’s video recap also highlighted other pop artists such as Beyoncé and Taylor Swift for the most searched performance and most searched songwriter, respectively.
Additionally, Barbie was recognized as the most searched toy, gaining attention after the release of the film featuring Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling and Simu Liu.
