South Korean golfer Amy Yang, who currently plays in the U.S., has bagged her first LPGA Tour title on American soil with a grand prize of $2 million.
LPGA Tour record: Yang, 34, secured her first American and fifth total LPGA Tour title at the CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Florida, on Sunday. Yang won her first title at the LPGA KEB-HanaBank Championship in Incheon, South Korea, in October 2013, followed by three more at the Honda LPGA Thailand in 2015, 2017 and 2019.
How she did it: Yang entered the final round tied with Japanese golfer Nasa Hataoka for the lead. She eventually pulled ahead and finished the game with a 10-foot birdie putt.
Reacting to her win: The South Korean golfer dropped her putter and covered her face with her hands. Other golfers rushed to spray her with champagne in celebration of her victory.
“I was so nervous down the stretch, but I try to tell myself: ‘I can do this. I can do this.’ I’m so happy I made it,” she told reporters after the win, adding it was a “great honor to have my first victory here.”
