Vietnamese American professional golfer Lilia Vu made history after winning her second major trophy at the AIG Women’s Open, effectively placing her on the No. 1 spot in the women’s world golf ranking.
Key details: Vu, 25, beat England’s Charley Hull by producing a final-round 67 to win the AIG Women’s Open at Walton Heath Golf Club in England on Sunday.
Her ranking: Vu’s AIG Women’s Open win saw her pushing down fellow American Nelly Korda in Rolex’s Women’s World Golf Rankings, where she recorded 347.86 points against Korda’s 273.23 to become the world’s No. 1 female golfer.

Making history: Vu, who turned professional after entering the LPGA Tour in 2019, notably made history by becoming the first American woman to win two majors in the same year since Juli Inkster in 1999. Vu earned her first major trophy at the Chevron Championship in April.
Vu is also the second American to win the 2023 Rolex ANNIKA Major Award since Michelle Wie West in 2014 and the fourth American to reach the No. 1 ranking since the Rolex Rankings’ inception in 2006.
She could not believe it: Speaking to Golf News following her win, Vu noted that “being the best in the world” is “just crazy to me.”
Just thinking about the struggle I had this year and just to come out with that has been — it’s just incredible,” she shared.
Vu also recalled failing to make the cut at three of the majors: the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in June and the U.S. Women’s Open and The Amundi Evian Championship in July.
I thought at the U.S. Open after I played so bad, I didn’t know if I could ever win again,” she said.
