Chinese gymnast Zou Jingyuan receives highest score in parallel bars at the Tokyo Games

Chinese gymnast Zou Jingyuan made history on Tuesday after winning gold in parallel bars and receiving the highest score any gymnast had ever received at the Tokyo Games.

A massive win: Zou beat Germany’s Lukas Dauser and Turkey’s Ferhat Arican in the grand finals with a final score of 16.233, ESPN reported. The event took place at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre.

Dauser’s score was 15.700, earning him the silver medal, while Arican received 15.633 for the bronze win, according to Olympics news.
Zou received a high score of 16.166 during the semifinals.

Who is Zou Jingyuan: Born in Yibin, China on Jan. 3, 1998, Zou attended Chengdu Sport University and studied Physical Education, according to his Olympics profile.

He started gymnastics at 3 and, later, a coach scouted him for his good physical condition. He was on the national team in 2012.
Zou was named Elite Athlete of National Class by the General Administration of Sport of China in 2016.
