Emmy-nominated director Yulin Kuang to helm film adaptation of novel ‘Beach Read’
Emmy-nominated writer and director Yulin Kuang will be adapting and directing the film adaptation of Emily Henry’s bestselling 2020 novel “Beach Read.”
The 20th Century Studios romantic comedy will center around two authors, romance writer January Andrews and literary writer Augustus Everett. Having known each other in college, the two unexpectedly find themselves living in neighboring beach houses during a single summer. They agree to swap genres after struggling with writer’s block, which eventually leads to a fiery chemistry between them.
According to The Wrap, Henry wrote in her newsletter, “Emily’s Grocery List,” that Kuang picked her brain and has been preparing for the project for a long time.
She’s visited all of the real-life places that inspired “Beach Read” and also just admitted to me yesterday that she went to my old college and traded some students a free dinner in exchange for playing tour guide for her. She is the best. She’s also a diehard romance lover.
“Beach Read” is now the third-bestselling novel by Henry that will receive a feature film adaptation.
Kuang previously wrote the script for the film adaptation of Henry’s 2021 novel “People We Meet on Vacation,” according to Deadline.
Aside from her work in film and television, Kuang herself is an author with a three-book, seven-figure deal with Avon. Her debut novel, “Good in a Room,” is slated to be published in February 2024.
