Yuh-Line Niou Endorsed by Senator Elizabeth Warren for Re-Election in NYC

Senator Elizabeth Warren has endorsed Taiwanese American politician Yuh-Line Niou for re-election in New York.
The announcement came on Tuesday when the former 2020 presidential candidate listed her endorsement on Twitter, which includes Niou.
“From investing in infrastructure and public housing to ending predatory lending fines and fees, @YuhLine leads the fight for change in Albany,” Warren wrote in her announcement. “At a time when important decisions for working families are being made at the state level, I’m proud to support her run for re-election.”
Niou is running for re-election as a member of the New York State Assembly in the 65th district, which covers Chinatown, the Financial District, Battery Park City and the Lower East Side. She was elected to serve the district in 2016.
As an assemblymember, Niou worked to improve the financial protections of consumers; to secure funding for New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) repairs, and has stood with tenants rights advocates for better housing regulations, according to her biography.
Niou, who is the first Asian American elected to represent New York City’s Chinatown, also took a firm stand last month during her speech on the FY 20–21 NY State Education, Labor, Housing and Family Assistance Budget Bill about the problems the city is facing, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking to New York County Politics, Niou said she was inspired by Warren’s “fierce and principled leadership” since she was a young activist fighting “predatory lending, combating redlining practices, and working to close the racial wealth gap.”
“She understands the importance of winning progressive victories at the local level as much as in Washington, and her planning and persistence is a model of smart, thoughtful leadership today,” Niou said. “This pandemic has laid bare the ways that our systems continue to fail working families, from our public health system to our schools and housing, and it’s clearer than ever that we need bold, effective leadership to fight for the structural change we need.”
“I’m ready to continue fighting alongside Senator Warren for immediate relief for working families and small businesses and long-term investment in infrastructure, healthcare, and affordable housing,” Niou added.
The primary for the 2020 New York Assembly Elections will take place on June 23, while the general election is set for November 3.
