By Ryan General
Fans of “Yu-Gi-Oh!” will be elated to know that their childhood dream of becoming a powerful duelist like Yugi Mutou is now one step closer to becoming a reality with the release of a life-size “Yu-Gi-Oh!” Duel Disk.
The popular manga and anime franchise (from the late 90’s to the early 2000’s) follows the story of a boy named Yugi Mutou, who uses huge holographic fields called Duel Disks/Rings to battle ancient monsters. The $19.8 billion “Yu-Gi-Oh!” franchise currently ranks among the highest-grossing franchises of all-time.
Bandai-Namco recently unveiled its 1:1-scale “Yu-Gi-Oh!” Duel Disk after teasing a series of prototypes last year.
Much like the device in the anime, the 71.5 cm Duel Disk attaches to its wielder’s arm. It also features familiar modes such as the Monster Zone, Deck Zone, Magic & Trap Zone, and Monster Graveyard.
The KaibaCorp tech even has a working life point counter to properly gauge if the imaginary battle is going in your favor. The same nostalgic BGM and SFX have also been incorporated into the Duel Disk as an added touch.
Bandai-Namco “Yu-Gi-Oh!” Duel Disk is set to be released in Japan in November 2019 for a price of ¥21,600 ($195). Pre-orders are now available at Bandai’s PROPLICA Duel web store.
