“Raya and the Last Dragon” director Carlos López Estrada has replaced Lee Isaac Chung and Marc Webb as the new director of the live-action adaptation of the 2016 anime film “Your Name.”
On Monday, Variety announced that López Estrada has been chosen to both direct and rewrite the “Your Name” remake. Eric Heisserer, who has worked on previous films such as “Bird Box” and “Arrival,” initially wrote the live-action adaptation’s script.
Webb, who is known for directing films such as “500 Days of Summer” and “The Amazing Spider-Man,” was signed on to direct the “Your Name” adaptation back in 2019. In 2020, he was replaced by Lee Isaac Chung of “Minari” fame. A year later, Chung reportedly left the project due to scheduling issues.
Besides the reimagined version of “Your Name,” López Estrada is also reportedly working on a live-action adaptation of Disney’s “Robin Hood.” The “Raya and the Last Dragon” director made his directorial debut in 2018 with the critically acclaimed comedy-drama film “Blindspotting.”
Although the film is reportedly in development, an official release date has yet to be announced.
