Taiwanese actor Yang Hsiu Hui is causing a stir online for her uncanny resemblance to Malaysian superstar Michelle Yeoh.
Airport confusion: Yang, 58, recently took to Facebook to reveal an incident at the airport in which two American tourists mistook her for the 61-year-old Academy Award-winning actress. The curious tourists, who were holding their phones with Yeoh’s image, approached the production team who were with Yang at the airport’s waiting lounge.
“Excuse me. Is the woman seated in front of us Michelle Yeoh?” the tourists asked
Her production team had to clarify the misconception, politely telling them that Yang just happens to look like Yeoh.
Netizens in disbelief: Back in March, Yang took social media by storm after she shared a Facebook post congratulating Yeoh on her best actress win at the Oscars.
“I want to congratulate Miss Michelle Yeoh on her win, and I also wish to thank everyone who offered me their congratulations as well,” she wrote, sharing a side-by-side photo of herself and Yeoh, both elegantly clad in black gowns.
Commenters couldn’t believe the uncanny likeness between the two and even jokingly congratulated Yang on her “Oscar award.”
According to Yang, even her father expressed confusion during a family dinner while watching Yeoh’s Oscar victory.
“Since when did you get an Oscar?” Yang’s father asked at the time.
Yang’s storied career: Yang began her career in entertainment as an opera actress in the early 1980s in Taiwan. She transitioned into guest appearances on variety shows and roles in television serials like “Love Above All” (2008-2009) and “Fighting Meiling” (2016).
