Woman who completed 8-mile race while pushing baby in stroller inspires netizens
A woman in central China has inspired many Chinese social media users after completing a 13-kilometer (8-mile) marathon while pushing her baby in a stroller.
The woman, identified as Liu, participated in the mini marathon in Hubei province on April 6 along with her 6-month-old baby. Together, they completed the entire route in two hours, according to the South China Morning Post.
In the video, the mother in her 30s can be seen running with one hand at her side and the other on the stroller handle to push her son, who sits calmly in his seat.
Her baby’s reaction was also recorded throughout the marathon. He can be seen smiling curiously as event organizers and volunteers cheer them on.
“I feel very touched,” Liu reportedly told Bailu Video in reference to the cheering spectators.
The event is reportedly Liu’s first time running in a marathon since her baby was born.
Liu, a sports enthusiast, said she is used to taking her child out for walks and runs in the stroller. To avoid collisions during the marathon, she gave other runners a head start before beginning.
She took two breaks to feed her son milk after completing 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) and again at the 6-kilometer (3.7-mile) point, adding half an hour to her final time.
Many social media users in mainland China praised and supported Liu for her bravery and determination.
“Look, the little son is quiet on the journey. The family must have a good parenting style,” one person wrote.
“When her little son grows up, he can be proud of himself for running a marathon at such a young age,” another commenter wrote.
