Black Community in Brooklyn Demands Workers in Nail Salon Brawl Face Criminal Charges

Christina Thomas, the customer who refused to pay $5 after a nail salon technician almost removed all of her eyebrows, believes that everyone involved in the incident, including those who hit her, should face criminal charges, according to PIX11 News.

The incident happened earlier this month when Thomas and the employees at the nail salon got into a massive brawl after the female customer refused to pay for services rendered. She was hit several times with a broomstick.

Employees allegedly threw acetone on Thomas and her companions, which protesters called out when they organized a rally in front of the salon following the brawl.

Thomas and a salon employee, 32-year-old Huiyue Zheng, were arrested by the police on charges of misdemeanor assault for the customer, and assault and weapon possession for the employee.

They were later released from custody after personal recognizance, but protesters continue to call for justice.

New videos from the rally emerged calling for authorities to close down the nail salon for good.

“We are working with the Nail Salon Association and we spoke to the women who are protesting to have a meeting,” State Senator Jesse Hamilton told PIX11. “We are setting up a meeting now to have a resolution, maybe more cultural sensitivity training for salon owners to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”

The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office released a statement regarding the case.

“We have been reviewing evidence that was not available at the onset of the case, interviewing additional witnesses and are committed to a fair and thorough investigation,” a spokeswoman said.
