A bakery manager in New York City’s Chinatown is getting much-needed support from Google and Will Smith this holiday season after his community was hit particularly hard by the pandemic.
Patrick Mock, the manager of 46 Mott Bakery, has been delivering hundreds of free meals to elderly residents, the homeless, frontline and essential workers to help them get through this difficult time.
Season 2 of Smith’s Snap Original series, “Will From Home,” returns with a second episode this week to spotlight the hard work Mock and 46 Mott has done for Chinatown.
Mock has been helping businesses in Chinatown stay afloat and offering food for those in need of a meal since the onset of the pandemic earlier this year.
In a preview clip shared on Smith’s Facebook page, the 52-year-old actor surprises Mock with a $50,000 grant from Google and a year of coaching via 1863 Ventures to support his efforts, as well as new cooler backpacks to help get his deliveries out.
“It was never about me, it was more about bringing my community together,” a tearful Mock told Smith via video call. “That’s the whole point of me trying to do this and seeing it all come together right now is all I want.
In addition, Asian Americans For Equality donated $10,000 to Mock’s “Light Up Chinatown,” according to EURweb.
The holiday special will also feature Alicia Keys joining in for some karaoke and Smith surprising Mock with a Phat Scooter.
Smith’s daily Snapchat series, which is produced by Westbrook Media, will include special guests this season, including DJ Khaled, Jill Scott, Lil Nas X, Liza Koshy, Ludacris, Black Thought and Master P.
