In the viral clip captured by one of the bystanders on a street in Qingyuan, Guangdong Province, the boy can be seen tightening his grip while the woman struggles to get up.
“I am your grandmother! How can you do this?” the woman shouts during the ruckus.
“I want to buy a toy!” the boy yelled while pulling at the woman’s hair.
At one point, a man approached them and asked the boy where his parents were. Unable to resolve the situation, onlookers sought the help of authorities to aid the grandma, MailOnline reports. 
When the four policemen arrived, they began talking to the boy in an effort to convince him to let his grandmother go.
“Come on! Let’s go and buy a toy now!” one policeman can be heard as saying.
While the boy eventually did let go of his grandmother after the police officers persuaded him, he received criticisms from the onlookers who scolded him for not respecting the elderly.
The grandmother did not sustain any injuries from the incident.
