Vietnamese immigrant killed in random shooting outside Texas Walmart

A Vietnamese man was fatally shot in what police say was a random shooting just outside a Walmart in Frisco, Texas, last week.
What happened: Two people with multiple gunshot wounds were found in the parking lot of the store on Preston Road and Hickory Street after 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16. Despite life-saving measures, Dung Doan, 62, succumbed to his injuries, while Zachary Lowe, 20, is expected to recover.
About Doan: Family members identified Doan in a GoFundMe page organized to help with funeral costs and his son’s education. According to the campaign, Doan immigrated to the U.S. last year and worked full-time at a bakery on minimum wage.
Doan’s wife reportedly immigrated a year earlier and is currently working as a chef’s assistant. One of their two children, aged 19, is an international student in Toronto.
What his family is saying: Doan’s niece, Kaitlin Nguyen, who set up the GoFundMe, said he lived in an apartment just across the store. Aside from his wife and son, she said Doan is survived by a daughter whom “part of her still hopes that he would come back.”
“I’m sure he never thought something like this could happen in America, right? It’s supposed to be a better place, a safer place,” Nguyen told FOX 4. “And how scared he was when he was taking his last breath. And his family couldn’t be there.”
Whoever fired the bullets is/are still on the loose.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Frisco Police Department at (972) 292-6010. Tips may also be texted to 847411, beginning the message with “FRISCOPD.”
