Filipino University Students Performing ‘How Far I’ll Go’ Will Leave You Speechless

Video of the performance was posted on the UP Singing Ambassadors’ Facebook page, garnering over 44,000 views and received more than 1,100 reactions and 316 shares.

Unlike the original piece, which contains elements of soul with traditional Pacific Islander music written and produced by “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, the UP Singing Ambassadors’ rendition is more akin to a church choir.

The UP Singing Ambassadors are currently traveling across Europe to compete in international singing competitions, and recently took home two major prizes in separate choir contests.

Their latest victory was at the 64th International Habaneras and Polyphony Competition in Torrevieja, Spain last month, according to Manila Bulletin.

They won two first prizes at the event under the Habanera category (Primer Premio Ricardo Lafuente), with a prize of 12,000 euros ($13,885) and a trophy. The group also won the Polyphony category (Primer Premio Juan Aparicio) with 10,000 euros ($11,571) and a trophy.

The group took home the grand prize at Sing! Berlin International Choir Competition at the Friedrich Handel Gymnasium in Berlin, Germany from July 4-8. They were also the category winner of the Sacred Music and Mixed Choirs competition.

Besides “Moana,” UP Singing Ambassadors also covered the ever-so-famous “Let It Go” from the movie “Frozen.”

They’ve sung “Circle of Life” from the classic “Lion King,” complete with animals and sounds of nature.

The group has also done a rendition of Josh Groban’s “You Raise Me Up.”
