Tulsi Gabbard says Democrats push ‘cowardly wokeness,’ ‘anti-white racism’ after leaving party

Tulsi Gabbard attacked the Democratic Party by calling them an “elitist cabal of warmongers” after announcing she is leaving the party in her new podcast.
Gabbard, a former U.S. House of Representatives member from Hawaii’s second district, announced her departure in the first episode of her podcast, “The Tulsi Gabbard Show,” on Tuesday.
“I love our country,” Gabbard says in her opening message. “Our God-given rights of freedom, life and liberty that are enshrined in our Constitution Bill of Rights are what inspires me.”
In her video, Gabbard recalls how growing up in Hawaii gave her “a very special appreciation for the importance of our environment; protecting our water, protecting our natural resources.”
Before becoming a politician, Gabbard says she was unaffiliated with either of the parties. After doing some research, she became inspired by the Democrats who “stood up against the war in Vietnam.”
“I was inspired by those who, here in Hawaii, fought for plantation workers who were being abused and exploited by wealthy landowners but had nobody to stand up for them and be their voice,” she says. “… I was drawn to the ideals of a big tent inclusive Democratic party that stood up for working men and women – that stood up for the little guy.”
“I can no longer remain in today’s Democratic Party,” Gabbard continues in the video. “It’s now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue and stoking anti-white racism, who actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms enshrined in our Constitution.”
She goes on to describe her former political party as a group who are “hostile to people of faith and spirituality, demonize the police, protect criminals at the expense of law-abiding Americans.”
The Democrats who “believe in open borders, who weaponize the National Security State to go after their political opponents and, above all, are dragging us ever closer to nuclear war,” she continues.
A vocal critic of President Biden, whom she once endorsed during the 2020 Presidential Race, Gabbard made history as the first Hindu-practicing Samoan American elected to congress. She also ran for president in 2020.
“President Biden campaigned on a message of unity, healing the partisan divide bringing the country together,” Gabbard says in her video. “He just gave a big speech saying supporters of President (Donald) Trump are the most extremist group in our country and a threat to our democracy. That’s half the country.”
Gabbard, an Iraq War veteran, resigned as vice chairperson of the Democratic National Committee in 2016 to endorse Sen. Bernie Sanders, who was running under the Democratic Party at the time.
A controversial voice within her former political party, Gabbard was criticized in 2013 for voting against a House resolution supported by both parties to condemn the anti-Muslim violence in Gujarat, a state in India in which 1,000 people died, most of whom were Muslims, during the 2002 Gujarat riots.
Gabbard also caught flak from then-presidential candidate Kamala Harris during the 2020 presidential race when she did not call Syrian President Bashar al-Assad a “war criminal.” She reportedly visited Syria and met with Assad in secret, a trip she called a “fact-finding mission.”
The former congresswoman, who has regularly appeared on Fox News and once filled in for Tucker Carlson in August, was condemned by Democrats for speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference earlier this year.
