Chinese-American Man Yells ‘Trump Save Me’ After Throwing Wife Off Stairs at Taiwan Airport

A Chinese American man was arrested for throwing his wife off a stairway at an airport in Taiwan, and witnesses reportedly overheard him yelling for Trump to save him.
The incident happened on March 18 at around 12:30 a.m. when the husband, only identified as Wan, threw his Taiwanese-Canadian wife, surnamed Chang, off of the fourth-floor staircase in the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, according to Liberty Times Net as translated by Taiwan News.
Wan and his wife and child traveled to Taiwan for the Lunar New Year holiday in February. The family originally planned to return to the U.S. in April, but on March 17, the 32-year-old man got into an argument with his wife over not being able to find a job and about their child’s living condition.
After the couple’s argument, Wan stormed off to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, but Chan followed him. At around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, the 33-year-old woman managed to track down her husband in Terminal 2.
Then, she received a phone call from home begging her to come back to take care of their child. But as she was about to leave, Wan refused to let her go. The two engaged in another heated argument while walking down the staircase on the fourth floor of the terminal.
Surveillance footage revealed that upon reaching the landing, Wan gave his wife a bear hug before hurling her off the stair landing. She reportedly struck a side wall and other objects before she landed in a safety net.
Wan followed about 30 seconds after his wife fell. He landed heavily on Chan, climbing out of the safety net and moved to the south side of the entrance hall where he sat on the floor.
Both Wan and Chan were sent to the hospitals for treatment after the police arrived. The wife suffered serious injuries from the incident including lacerations on her head and multiple fractures. She also slipped into a coma and was placed in the intensive care unit.
The husband, meanwhile, was transferred to the Taiwan Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office as his injuries were not as serious. As he was being escorted to a police car while being cuffed, Wan reportedly shouted, “I am an American! President Trump save me!”
The man has been charged with attempted murder and is considered a flight risk. Prosecutors convinced the court to allow them to place Wan in custody, while Chan’s father is set to file a lawsuit against the man.
