‘The White Lotus’ composer teases Season 3 opening is inspired by cat videos

Cristobal Tapia de Veer, the composer of hit HBO series “The White Lotus,” recently teased that the theme song for the show’s third season was inspired by videos he found on social media platforms such as TikTok.
Inspired by a cat: The Chilean-born Canadian composer told Variety that one of the videos he found “super moving and so spontaneous and fresh” was a video of people harmonizing with a cat on TikTok.
“I’m a fan of pop music, but it feels like it’s been a while that I feel like something has surprised me,” he shared. “So I’ve been looking a lot into these eight-second bits of music that people [are] putting together and harmonizing a cat or stupid, silliest things.”
“To me, it’s like a gold mine, it’s just moving to me. It feels like you are actually in contact with a person,” he added.
A fresh approach: Tapia de Veer incorporated several unconventional sounds into the theme songs of the first and second seasons of “The White Lotus,” such as wailing voices and animal noises.
Set for Season 3: The upcoming season of “The White Lotus” will likely be set in one of Thailand’s Four Seasons resorts in Bangkok, Koh Samui, Chiang Mai and the Golden Triangle.
About the video: Although Tapia de Veer never gave specific information about the TikTok video of people harmonizing with a cat, such content has been gaining traction on social media in the past few years. Some viral clips include “Num Num Cat TikTok Chain,” “Luga Luga Cat TikTok Chain” and The Kiffness’ “Alugalug Cat” mashup.
