Amazon has greenlit a Japanese adaptation of ABC’s reality dating series “The Bachelorette.”
Prime Video ordered the show on Wednesday with at least 20 other new and returning international series from Germany, India, Italy, Mexico, Spain and the U.K, The Wrap reported.
ABC’s “The Bachelorette,” a spin-off of “The Bachelor,” has aired for 14 seasons since 2003. In the show, gender roles are reversed as a single woman takes charge in finding her future husband from a pool of male contestants.
In the meantime, two seasons of “The Bachelor Japan” are available to stream on Prime Video.
Aside from “The Bachelorette,” Amazon greenlit two other shows from Japan, including an untitled social issue series and a new season of “Documental,” The Hollywood Reporter noted.
Produced by Vice Media Japan, the untitled social issue series marks the first original content collaboration between the company and Amazon.
“We’re delighted to announce the commissioning of more than twenty new and returning series, to be produced in seven countries across three continents around the world,” said Amazon Studios Head Jennifer Salke, according to Deadline. “We’re excited and committed to amplifying the voices of storytellers from all over the world and to bring their visions to life for our viewers worldwide.”
Head of International Originals James Farrell added, “As well as delighting local audiences, we’re excited to showcase the work of these talented local writers, directors, producers and actors to be enjoyed by an international audience of more than 100 million Prime members worldwide.”
