Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood announces opening date
With Super Nintendo World officially opening at Universal Studios Hollywood in February 2023, it’s a great time to be a Mario fan.
Well, unless you’re still bummed about Mario’s scandalous butt erasure.
A Super Nintendo World opened in Osaka, Japan, in March 2021, but fans in the U.S. likely weren’t able to visit due to recently lifted travel restrictions.
Universal Studios Hollywood released a video on Wednesday showing off the upcoming park’s major attractions, which include a Mario Kart ride, character meet and greets, Toadstool Café and a merch store called 1-Up Factory.
It seems many of the announced attractions are the same as those in the Osaka location. If that is the case, the ride Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge will likely use augmented reality technology to allow parkgoers to see other characters through headsets as they ride through exciting courses in a bid to defeat Team Bowser and win the Golden Cup.
Super fans will be able to purchase Power-Up Bands to increase their immersion and take full advantage of the park’s interactivity.
With the bands, wearers will collect digital coins as they punch blocks and obtain special keys after defeating Goomba, Koopa Troopa, Piranha Plant and Thwomp in four separate challenges, with Bowser Jr. as the final boss.
A free downloadable app allows participants to keep track of their scores, which can afford players with special interactions with Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach.
Super Nintendo World will open at Universal Studios Hollywood on Feb. 17, 2023.
