‘The Boy and the Heron’: Studio Ghibli releases 14 new photos of Hayao Miyazaki’s final film

Studio Ghibli has released 14 photos of its new film “The Boy and the Heron.”
Key details: Last week, the beloved Japanese animation studio shared the photos on its website. The 14 film stills feature different characters and colorful scenes.
Why it’s significant: “The Boy and the Heron” is purportedly Hayao Miyazaki’s final film. Prior to the movie’s release in Japan, Studio Ghibli chose to not market it, which left countless fans wondering about its plot.
Reception in Japan: Despite Studio Ghibli’s unconventional marketing approach, “The Boy and the Heron” did exceedingly well at the Japanese box office, setting a record with the biggest opening weekend of any Studio Ghibli production in Japan.
Upcoming premiere: U.S. distributor Gkids announced last month that it had acquired the distribution rights for “The Boy and the Heron” in the U.S.
An official North American release date has yet to be announced, but the film will notably make history next month as the first Japanese film to open the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
