The project will reunite Yeun, 38, and the 52-year-old South Korean director for the first time since they collaborated on the 2017 Netflix drama “Okja,” according to Variety.
Details remain unclear as to what role Yeun will play in Bong’s film, but Pattinson, 36, will reportedly play the protagonist.
Although a title has yet to be announced, the upcoming film will reportedly be based on Edward Ashton’s novel 1918 “Mickey7.”
The film’s plot, described as “Andy Weir’s ‘The Martian’ meets Blake Crouch’s ‘Dark Matter,’” follows Mickey7, a dispensable employee who embarks on a suicide mission to colonize the ice world Niflheim. After Mickey7 survives the mission, he goes back home and finds out that he has already been replaced by Mickey8, a clone who also has the same memories.
Other actors who will be joining Yuen include Toni Collette, Naomi Ackie and Marvel star Mark Ruffalo.
Widely known for his role as Glenn Rhee in the AMC zombie drama “The Walking Dead,” Yeun became the first Asian American actor nominated for Best Actor at the 2021 Oscars for his performance as Jacob Yi in “Minari.”
Yeun is set to appear in Jordan Peele’s new thriller “Nope,” which premieres in theaters on July 22. In April, Amazon Prime teased that Yeun returned to the recording booth for Season 2 of “Invincible.”
Bong’s 2019 black comedy “Parasite” made history in 2020 for becoming the first non-English film to win the Best Picture award at the 2020 Oscars, where Bong also won the Best Director award.
