Steven Yeun to Star and Produce Korean Immigrant Film ‘Minari’
By Bryan Ke
Steven Yeun, “The Walking Dead” alum and star of the critically acclaimed “Burning,” is set to appear in and executive produce “Minari,” a film written and directed by Lee Isaac Chung.
“Minari” follows the story of a Korean family trying to achieve the American Dream in 1980s rural Arkansas, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
A24 will finance the film, which is scheduled to start production on July 15 and be produced alongside Yeun, director Chung, and Plan B.
The drama is reportedly inspired by Chung’s upbringing as the son of Korean immigrants in rural Arkansas.
The 35-year-old actor will take up the role of the father, who aims to uproot his family from Korea and chase the American dream.
Yeun, whose family moved to Michigan when he was 5 years old, will star alongside Korean actresses Yeri Han and Youn Yuh-Jung, who will both make their official U.S. debut.
