Stephanie Poetri, Elephante and Zhang Yanqi release collab track ‘No Explanations’
Indonesian singer-songwriter Stephanie Poetri, Asian American DJ and music producer Elephante and former R1SE member Zhang Yanqi teamed up for their new song “No Explanations.”
The collaboration came about after Poetri and Elephante met for the first time and worked together on the latter’s album. Fellow 88rising labelmate Zhang was introduced to Poetri and Elephante shortly after.
In a press release for the song, Elephante shared that the song pushed him out of his comfort zone.
No Explanations is a song about first love – that giddy, unapologetic feeling of falling for someone, and hoping that they’re doing the same for you. It’s a feel good, synthy BOP – it was a lot of fun working on something outside my normal comfort zone, and a blast putting the song together with Steph and Zhang.
Poetri added that the song’s meaning is all about love.
“‘No Explanations’ is a fun, summery, disco song! We wrote it about how much I love someone – so much that I don’t need to actually say I love them, because the way I feel and behave already shows that.”
This marks Poetri’s latest release following her single “Breakfast in Bed,” featuring gnash.
In an interview with NextShark about “Breakfast in Bed,” Poetri revealed she’s only writing love songs as of late and likes detailed music.
“I think, as a listener myself, I like when something is so specific that it’s almost like a little look into their own personal lives that usually we don’t get to show,” she said.
As for Elephante, he wrapped up his 20-stop “Heavy Glow Tour” in June. He is slated to perform at multiple music festivals in the upcoming months: The Grand Boston on April 7, Heatwave in Chicago on June 11, Escapade in Ottawa, Canada, on June 25 and the Moonrise Festival in Baltimore on Aug. 13.
