‘Squid Game’ creator introducing new game mechanisms for Season 2
By Rebecca Moon
In anticipation of “Squid Game” Season 2, the creator has reportedly created a new game mechanism called “Cheol-su.”
Confirming details revealed in June, South Korean news outlet Moonhwa Ilbo reported on Wednesday that Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of “Squid Game,” is implementing a new game mechanism called “Cheol-su.” The new mechanism has been described as the “boyfriend” of Young-hee, the giant doll seen in the “Red Light, Green Light” game in the series’ first season.
Hwang has reportedly been putting in “a lot of effort” to create new game mechanisms and even “struggled” to select the final ones.
Filming for the second season of “Squid Game” will take place in 2023, while its release window is expected sometime at the end of 2024.
Lee Jung-jae, who plays the fictional character Seong Gi-hoon, will reprise his role in the second season and continue to be the main focus. The Frontman, played by Lee Byung-hun, and Gong Yoo’s cameo character will also be returning.
The second season will also reportedly introduce new characters.
Lee recently won an Emmy Award in the Outstanding Lead Actor category for his role in “Squid Game,” making history as the first Asian and Korean actor to do so. Hwang also won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, making “Squid Game” the first non-English language series to win the category.
