Canadian officials, headed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, presented a “Kim’s Convenience” shirt to South Korean President Moon Jae-in at the recent G20 in Osaka.
The moment, which made rounds on Twitter shortly, shows Moon receiving the simple white T-shirt bearing the show title in its iconic green and red text.
“Kim’s Convenience” made its Korean broadcast debut in January, running with two episodes a week on TV Chosun, according to the Korea Joongang Daily.
The CBC sitcom, adapted from Ins Choi’s award-winning 2011 play of the same title, centers on a Korean immigrant family living in Canada.
Twitter user Adam Cobb, who first shared the G20 clip, described it as his “new favorite thing.”
This week, cast member Simu Liu took notice, tweeting, “So apparently @JustinTrudeau gave @moonriver365 (President of South Korea) a ‘Kim’s Convenience’ T-shirt?!?!”
As seen in the clip, Moon cheerfully receives the shirt presented by Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland.
Needless to say, the surprising moment sent fans into a frenzy.
Meanwhile, some appreciated Moon’s Twitter username.
