South Asian New York Fashion Week (SANYFW), which brings South Asian designers from around the world to Manhattan, is kicking off this weekend.
Key details: The invite-only event, which will be held at four different locations around the Upper East Side and Chelsea, starts on Saturday and ends on Wednesday.
About the attendees: The South Asian designers and brands set to attend this year include Always Raas, Aks Mathur, Chaa Latte, Sithara by Sriya, Studio Kiyan, Akriti by Shakun, Svarini, Jamil by MD and Maison Tai.
Its history: Founded by fashion entrepreneur Shipra Sharma in partnership with Hetal Patel, SANYFW held its first-ever event on Sept. 8, 2022. SANYFW aims to uplift South Asian fashion inspired by modern and traditional South Asian culture.
Sharma told Women’s Wear Daily in May that at SANYFW, they intend to “highlight and share the history of our fashion and culture” and celebrate “the fashion pioneers who have been trailblazers for our community universally.”
Not just fashion: Last year, SANYFW hosted SANYFW: The Bazaar experience to highlight the works of artisans, craft makers, jewelers and more from the community.
