Banana Nutella Xiao Long Bao is a Thing at a Restaurant in NYC
By Bryan Ke
Xiao long bao, also known as XLB or soup dumplings, typically holds soup and meat wrapped in white dough, but a restaurant in Queens has turned the traditional dumpling into a dessert.
Kung Fu Xiao Long Bao, a Chinese restaurant located in the neighborhood of Flushing in Queens, New York, offers what is called Nutella XLB.
As the name implies, this dumpling is made of the usual xiao long bao dough, but with Nutella as the soup and banana as meat filling.
The restaurant’s menu item is not the first in New York.
According to SecretNYC, the same XLB was first served at The Bao in St. Marks Place before the owner got rid of it due to poor reception from customers. However, it later made its return on the menu in the fall of 2018.
While both restaurants — run by the same boss — offer the same dessert, some people reportedly find the Nutella XLB better at Kung Fu Xiao Long Bao than The Bao.
