Singapore Airlines named world’s best airline for 2023 at ‘Oscars of the aviation industry’
Singapore Airlines has been named the best airline in the world for 2023 by airline-ranking company Skytrax.
The title: The 2023 World Airline Awards was announced in a gala ceremony in the Air and Space Museum at the Paris Air Show on Tuesday.
Singapore Airlines, which came in second last year, takes the lead over the seven-time winner Qatar Airways, which fell to second place this year. Singapore’s top ranking marks the airline’s fifth time claiming the “World’s Best Airline” title in the award’s 23-year history.
Goh Choon Phong, the airline’s chief executive, celebrated the award, saying it was “a testament to the indomitable spirit of our people.”
“We are very grateful to our customers for their enduring loyalty to and affection for Singapore Airlines,” Goh said. “During the pandemic, their support and encouragement gave us the strength and determination to overcome the unprecedented challenges. Today, as we recover from the pandemic, we are firmly committed to innovating and investing in industry-leading products and services, and ensuring that SIA continues to offer our customers a world-class travel experience.”
About the awards: The World Airline Awards, which began in 1999, is widely regarded as “the Oscars of the aviation industry.” The “independent and impartial” annual list names the top 100 airlines around the world based on data from an online traveler satisfaction survey that covered more than 325 airlines.
Asia’s airline domination: In the ranking, Japan’s ANA All Nippon Airways comes in third place, followed by UAE’ Emirates in fourth and Japan Airlines in fifth position.
Singapore Airlines was also named World’s Best First Class, while Japan Airlines won the World’s Best Economy Class title and Taiwan’s Eva Air, a service launched in 1991, won Best Premium Economy Class.
Among other awards, Malaysia’s AirAsia won the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline — an award that it has claimed since 2010, and Scoot, a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, won the award for the World’s Best Long-Haul, Low-Cost airline.
Meanwhile, Bangkok Airways claimed the title for the World’s Best Regional Airline, Garuda Indonesia was voted as having the World’s Best Cabin Staff for the sixth time and Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific was singled out as having the World’s Best Inflight Entertainment for the first time.
