Simu Liu Responds After Discovering Many People Use His Photos to Catfish
By Ryan General
Actor Simu Liu is poking fun at some dating app users who use his photos to catfish their potential dates.
Not Daniel from North Hollywood: Liu, whose popularity skyrocketed for his performance as Jung Kim in the award-winning sitcom “Kim’s Convenience,” took to Twitter to share a dating profile from OkCupid that used his image.
- “To all the people using my photos on dating apps… I question your taste,” Liu tweeted on Thursday.
- He shared an image of him in a dating profile of a man claiming to be Daniel from North Hollywood.
- Liu’s Twitter followers chimed in with jokes, with some saying they almost were catfished by someone pretending to be the Shang-Chi star.
Not Jake, Ivan, nor Mike: While the Chinese-Canadian actor has been active on the small and big screen in the last several years, it did not stop some online daters from using his photos on other apps as well.
- Last year, Liu shared some profiles from eHarmony, OkCupid and Tinder.
- “I would greatly appreciate it if you swiped right on these people that are clearly the real me and not at all impersonating me,” Liu wrote in jest.
- In one of the photos, a user claiming to be 22-year-old Jake from Kuala Lumpur, says he is looking for a “sexting partner.”
- In his tweet, Liu highlighted Jake’s eye-catching bio, saying, “Props to Jake for being upfront with what he wants!”
Liu is playing the superhero Shang-Chi in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” The highly anticipated film is scheduled to be released on July 9, 2021.
