K-pop boy group Seventeen teams up with UNESCO for youth education campaign
Seventeen gave K-pop fans something to “Clap” about as they announced their global campaign
Under UNESCO’s global Futures of Education initiative, the KNCU created the #EducationCanChange_ project. Together with the Pledis Entertainment K-pop act, they aim to raise awareness about the importance of youth education.
In a press statement about the campaign event, Seventeen said, “With the aim of ‘Going Together,’ we will together reimagine the futures of education and work to provide more diverse educational opportunities as ‘TEAM SVT’. We hope the campaign will bring hope for a better future and greater dreams for children worldwide.”
Kyung-Koo Han, the secretary general of KNCU, responded, “We are honored to work together with Seventeen on this new campaign to find new ways to address the global problem of educational inequality and build a better future for children worldwide.”
Seventeen will be donating part of the proceeds from their “Be the Sun” world tour to the campaign. The North American leg of their tour starts in Vancouver on Aug. 10. The group previously donated to KNCU earlier this year in celebration of the group’s seventh anniversary.
Prior to the campaign announcement, Seventeen’s repackage album “Sector 17” reached No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 charts. The group also received three nominations at the 2022 Video Music Awards.
The 13-member group released their new album “Face the Sun” back in May with the title track “Hot.” They also collaborated with Apple ahead of the drop for their first English-language single, “Darl+ing.”
