Inside The Secret Angel Library Cafe in Japan
By Ryan General
A well-hidden, exclusive cafe in Japan has been discovered and it’s mesmerizing coffee lovers for its unique, ethereal ambiance.
Located underneath the Cacao Market in Gion District of Kyoto, the Angel Library cafe is so private that only guests with a special code are allowed to enter, reported RocketNews24.
The secret shop was initially brought to the spotlight by Japanese Twitter user @probotprobot who posted images about their recent visit:
“There’s a cafe I want to go to next time I go to Kyoto!
It’s a secret cafe underneath CACAO MARKET in Gion.
You tell a staff member that you want to use the cafe, and then they will hand you a secret code. You have to go around to the back to a door behind the building and put in the code, then when you go downstairs….”
Outside, Cacao Market is made to look like a typical store, with no indication of a cafe inside it.
Clients who are in-the-know can merely ask for the secret cafe and they will be provided a code, one that is changed daily. They are then directed to go around to a very mystical-looking entrance at the back.
Only after descending through a mysterious staircase is the hidden Angel Library cafe finally revealed.
Adorned with angel-related decor and artwork, the cafe is also stacked with books in its numerous shelves.
While there were no mystical creatures and beings to be found, the ambiance inside the Angel Library cafe is certainly enough to bring one imaginative customer to another world.
For that coffee time with a bit of an Alice in Wonderland/Harry Potter vibe, adventurous souls may discover the Angel Library cafe here: Kyoto-fu, Kyoto-shi, Higashiyama-ku, Tokiwacho 165-2
京都府 京都市東山区 常盤町 165-2 B1F.
The secret shop is open daily, except Tuesdays, from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
