San Francisco Toll Worker Tragically Dies After Alleged Drunk Driver Crashes Into Booth

A San Francisco toll worker tragically died after a suspected DUI box truck driver collided with a booth and demolished it while the victim was still inside.
Si Si Han, 46, was thrown several feet away when the speeding truck crashed into the Bay Bridge toll plaza at 5:11 a.m.
Han was in Booth 14 just 10 minutes before she was tragically killed, leaving behind her husband, Ryan Saw, and a 10-year-old daughter, Ashly.
According to ABC7, a close relative of Han was worried that the victim’s daughter “is going to have a difficult time” and revealed that her death left her husband “devastated, depressed.”
Although, Han’s family aren’t the only ones having a hard time coping with her death as she was loved very much by her peers and colleagues as well.
“We loved her here. She always smiled and always asked about the family. And I asked about her daughter, her husband, her mother. It’s hard right now,” Han’s coworker Latasha Luster explained.
Han reportedly moved to the U.S. from Burma 15 years ago after marrying her husband and started working as a toll worker for Caltrans after her daughter was born.
California Highway Patrol officer Vu Williams explained that Han’s tragic passing was a culmination of a “chain reaction” that started when driver Daniel Berk slammed into five other vehicles on the way to the booth.
“I’ve never seen this, I’ve seen them damage the booth before. Never to this extent,” Williams added.
According to SFGate, the 32-year-old truck driver was ejected out of the truck after the vehicle was split in half. Berk sustained some serious injuries following the crash and is now being tended to at Oakland’s Highland Hospital along with his passenger and five other occupants of the cars that were hit.
Berk is suspected of having either drugs or alcohol in his system while driving the vehicle that he rented from Monarch Truck Center in San Jose, according to Steve Russler, an employee with the company.
The suspect reportedly works as a stage tech engineer, listing himself on Facebook as a member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 16 in San Francisco. His totaled vehicle contained some sound or lighting equipment.
A relative of Berk declined to comment on the massive vehicular disaster, saying, “I’m sorry, we’re not going to be giving any comment at this time.”
All toll lanes were were reopened by Saturday evening, while three of the of the four damages toll booths reopened by Monday morning, according to Caltrans spokesman Bob Haus. But the booth that was completely destroyed by the crash will take some time to fix.
