Red Velvet celebrate a ‘Birthday’ with new comeback mini-album
K-pop girl group Red Velvet are back with their new mini-album “
VDW Music Group, whose other credits include NCT Dream, aespa and CHUNG HA, among others, placed the new title track. “Birthday” samples George Gershwin’s 1924 musical composition “Rhapsody in Blue,” continuing the classical sampling precedent set by the K-pop quintet’s last single “Feel My Rhythm.”
The new mini-album, which was released on Monday, comes with four B-sides: “BYE BYE,” “On a Ride,” “ZOOM” and “Celebrate.” It is the K-pop act’s second domestic release this year and the second installment of their “The ReVe Festival 2022” album series, which started with March’s “Feel My Rhythm.”
Aside from group releases, individual members of Red Velvet have worked on their own projects this year. Last month, Seulgi became the third member, after Wendy and Joy, to debut as a soloist with her album “28 Reasons.” Over the summer, the group’s youngest member Yeri collaborated with Korean American artist Sam Kim on the “SM Station” song “Nap Fairy.”
In related news, SM Entertainment announced that Red Velvet will feature alongside the company’s other artists for their annual winter project. This year, it will be called “2022 Winter SMTOWN : SMCU PALACE” and is set to release on Dec. 26.
