Dancing on the grave of its predecessor, Netflix is releasing a new workplace comedy series titled “Blockbuster,” set in America’s very last Blockbuster store prior to the video rental company’s demise.
First-look images of the upcoming show, starring Randall Park, were released on Friday.
The series follows Timmy Yoon (Park), who is described as an “analog dreamer living in a 5G world.” Timmy and his staff fight to stay relevant after finding out that their Blockbuster location is the last one standing in the country.
“The only way to succeed is to remind their community that they provide something big corporations can’t: human connection,” the logline reads.
Melissa Fumero plays Timmy’s long-time crush Eliza: “a dedicated mother whose marriage to her high school sweetheart is on the rocks. She left Harvard after one semester to start a family and now works at Blockbuster alongside Timmy as his trusty No. 2… and maybe more.”
Created by Vanessa Ramos (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), the series also stars Tyler Alvarez (“Never Have I Ever”), Madeleine Arthur (“To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before”), Olga Merediz (“In the Heights”), JB Smoove (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”) and Kamaia Fairburn (“Holly Hobbie”).
Ramos also serves as the show’s writer, executive producer and showrunner, along with David Caspe and Jackie Clarke as executive producers.
The 10-episode series will be released on Netflix on Nov. 3. Check out the first look images below:
